Get more from your wireless headset

What does Ear Buddy Do?

Ear Buddy:

  • Announces callers by name using your wireless or wired headset.
  • Can route music and podcasts over Bluetooth headsets.
  • Connects to Google Voice Search over Bluetooth and even launches Voice Search by headset button, even when your phone is asleep and locked.
  • Routes Fring calls over Bluetooth, even on Android 2.2
  • Routes Skype calls over Bluetooth

If does all these things transparently, according to settings you can adjust by clicking its application icon. Simple.

Requirements

Ear Buddy requires Android 2.2 or later, and a headset with Bluetooth wireless technology that is compatible with Android's own Voice Dialer.

How do I get it?

Ear Buddy be obtained by following this link (only via your phone running Android 2.2 or later).

I also broke some Ear Buddy features out as ala carte offerings in apps called BT+CallerId and BT+Music.

How to use Ear Buddy (or BT+CallerId/BT+Music)

Click the app's icon to adjust settings. Otherwise, operation is entirely transparent. Depending on the preferences you apply on the Settings panel, the app will spring to life when it needs to work its audio-routing magic. Neat.

If you use the headset button or long-press-on-search, you may wish to check the box to make your selection of Ear Buddy "sticky". If you later reconsider, visit your phone's Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Ear Buddy and press "Clear defaults" so that Ear Buddy will relinquish its claim to that button.

If you launch Ear Buddy by the headset button, you can even place calls through Voice Search when your phone is asleep and locked.
